Dress of the Day: Amsale 2008 March 26, 2010

I’m on a dress kick… I can’t help it. It’s spring and I’m daydreaming (what else is new) about what cute sundresses I’ll get for summer :) which prompted a closet clean-out and inventory of all my summer threads… which then reminded me that I can’t wait for the first excuse to wear a cute maxi dress! (any excuse to wear publicly acceptable muu-muus is a good excuse).

Hmmm… Muu-Muu Couture. Is there such a thing?

Then I started thinking about an upcoming friend’s wedding and what I would/could get away with to that. Hmmmm… which led me to think about wedding muu-muus. Don’t ask me to back track all the details and thought processes there, but I ended up looking at wedding dresses. Oy.

Does anyone remember the dress Gwyneth Paltrow wore when she won her Oscar for Shakespeare In Love? That was my inspiration for this search.

And I found THIS:

Amsale

.

Totally cute, right? I won’t hate you if you hate it. It’s Amsale 2008 collection! 2008? Would you have guessed? Probably not.

bouquet brain? here’s a quick fix! March 22, 2010

Hello all you bride-to-bes and bride wannabes :)   Happy Monday! I’ve noticed quite a few of you checking out our flower posts and pics (as requested, soon to be continued in May with more wonderful blooms) and thought I’d throw in two quick 5 minute clips -courtesy of TheKnotTV- about Spring bouquets and blooms, and money-saving tips.

This clip is fairly singular as it only highlights a single bouquet/bout concept, but I like that it takes a giant turn from the ordinary spring colors. Spring is all about COLOR and while many of us tend to lean towards the usual yellows and pinks, there’s a whole spectrum of shades and blooms that can come together to create a great Spring palette. Even if your heart is set on a certain color or flower, there are some excellent alternative (or additional) shades, blooms, and textures that will enhance any piece. I hope this inspires some wonderfully unique visions for your own color theme :) Enjoy!

The second clip -courtesy of TheKnotTV- is about money-saving tips when it comes to choosing your flowers.

factoid of the day: Amsale… March 21, 2010

Amsale Aberra

Amsale Aberra

Do you know the ab fab history behind Amsale gowns? Aside from being one of the sweetest names in bridal couture, Amsale (pronounced Ahm-sah’-leh) Aberra is an Ethiopian transplant who came to the US in the ’80s to study Commercial Art. After graduating from UMass with a degree in Political Science, and an economic need forced her to sew her own clothes during undergrad, she discovered a passion for fashion and enrolled in New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. Then, in 1985, fruitless searches for her own wedding dress spawned an idea to create her own, as well as design and custom make dresses to others out of her own NYC apartment. And, well, the rest is history.

In Dallas, Amsale gowns can be found exclusively at Stanley Korshak 214.871.3611 and Neiman’s 800.937.9146.

Here’s one (just one) of my faves for Fall 2010 from the Amsale 2010 Bridal Collection…

A Very Important Date… March 20, 2010

As if all you Dallas brides out there aren’t already tuned into everything and anything “wedding”, here’s a quick reminder of what’s set to be quite the bridal wonderland: Alice in Weddingland, in all its Mad Hatting glory, will fête forth on April 1, 2010 at the The Ryan Manor on Inwood in Dallas. Benefiting Brides Against Breast Cancer (which, btw, is a GREAT place to donate your gown should you feel so inclined after the big day) and produced by some of the biggest names in the Dallas Weddings and Events Industry, is a sort of launch party, or GRAND PREMIER, of Groom Sold Separately. This will be an excellent chance to mix and mingle with some highly reputable Dallas wedding vendors and come away with some great ideas ( and possibly some prizes, too :) )

Alice in Weddingland

Thursday April 1, 2010 @ 6:30p
